Origin: Matriarchal; Guinea-Bissau, Balanta people. I was born in Akron, Ohio, to the late Alvar Estelle Flinn Jackson and Noel Joseph Jack (aka) Jackson. Attend New Hope Baptist and First Grace UCC Churches. Grandmother of five and one great-grandson.
Education in life:
St. Mary’s grade School, I am a proud graduate of Akron South High School class of 1965.
First job Akron, St. Thomas Hospital in 1962-1968 in the Housekeeping Department and then Nursing Service.
In Chicago 1968 Participated in the 1968 Democratic Conventions protest as a participant in the social unrest (Anti- Vietnam war).
In 1983-1992, Employed with the Care Group of Texas and other agencies as a Home Health Hospice Aide caring for AIDS patients, took assignments to work at Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston, Texas.
In 1995-1999 I was employed at Memorial Hermann Hospital as a PCAII, in the Medical and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit while studying at Houston Baptist (Christian) University.
Secondary Education:
- Two years at Houston Community College, studying prerequisites for Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from Houston Baptist University 1996.
- Master in Social Work from the University of Houston University of Houston Graduate School of Social Work in May of 2000.
